With the imminent arrival of Seu Jorge in the UK, it was time
to have a look at his guest appearance with Forro In The Dark.
The track ‘Suor De Pele Fina’ has some heavy beats, distorted
guitar and vibes in an echo chamber thatcould sound like a mess
but Jorge keepsit all together beautifully. And he plays bass on
this track. Is there no end to the guy’s talents?
Forro In The Dark are lead by Mauro Refosco who has worked
with the likes of Bebel Gilberto, David Byrne, and Caetano Veloso,
Smokey Hormel (half of Smokey & Miho - check out the review
of Milho’s latest “elemental celebration” album Ecdysis), with
Rob Curto on accordion and the horns of Jon Birdsong.
Mawglee puts some big beat into the proceedings on his remix but
the track for me is the trip hoppy dub of the b-side remix by Zeb.
He also goes under the name of the Spy From Cairo and there’s
certainly a feel of that with the bulging bass and knob twiddling.
We love the accordion at fly, the the ‘bonus’ track is a little bit of a
goodie on the mix of semi-broken-gypsy-Afro-samba-breaks of
Flavinho Megabyte’s ‘Let There Be Dark’ Mix of a track called
‘O Baile de Bio Laurinda’.
I must find out what ‘Suor de Pele Fina’ means but we love this
12” as all the tracks are so in Biggabush cross-genre territory.
